As we previously reported on November 6, 2014, Massachusetts voters approved a ballot question mandating that employers provide employees sick time according to certain conditions (see New Comprehensive Sick Time Law Impacts All Employers at https://www.theroyallawfirm.com/news/women-labor/new-comprehensive-sick-time-law-impacts-all-employers/).
The Attorney General has just issued the proposed regulations for this new law, which is expected to go into effect on July 1, 2015 (http://www.mass.gov/ago/doing-business-in-massachusetts/labor-laws-and-public-construction/earned-sick-time/#Section%2033.07%20%20%20%20Allowable%20Substitution%20of%20Employers%E2%80%99%20Paid%20Leave%20Plans). Public comment on these proposed regulations is open until 5:00 p.m. on June 10, 2015.
In light of this new law, many employers are going to need to revise their current PTO policies or create sick time policies to ensure compliance with the law.
