What I love most about working with businesses is that I get to work with creative, driven and intelligent people. There are few things more exciting than working on a project with like-minded individuals that are as excited about the project as you are, and are willing to put forth the effort to succeed in the endeavor.
"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." -- Aristotle
Attorney Tanzania (Tanzi) C. Cannon-Eckerle is an experienced litigator, negotiator, trainer, and counselor at law. As Chief Development Officer at Royal, P.C., her role is to create, develop, and cultivate new business.
Tanzi has experience in a variety of areas of labor and employment law, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, the National Labor Relations Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination and Employment Act, discrimination and harassment, workplace safety and OSHA, unfair competition and trade secrets, and employee privacy. As a trainer, Tanzi conducts seminars on a variety of labor and employment related topics.
Prior to joining Royal, P.C., Tanzi owned and operated a law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina, which focused on business law and litigation, maintaining a large federal practice. As a business owner, Tanzi understands that businesses want an attorney who can assess risk and provide practical solutions. Tanzi’s favorite part of her prior practice was being the “go-to” outside counsel for business owners. From choosing the proper business entity with which to run a business to customizing a collection of key forms necessary to keep it running on a daily basis, Tanzi is experienced in helping businesses realize their potential and prevent legal mishaps. Furthermore, she can advocate on behalf of businesses during labor and/or contract negotiations and many other types of transactions.
As a business woman, Tanzi has experience in a variety of industries. Not only did she run her own law firm, but she also co-owned a small real estate firm; designed, developed and operated a reception hall; owned and operated a party-planning concierge business; and worked as a Marketing Coordinator for a national brokerage firm and as a Certified Manager for a national employment agency. Accordingly, when charged with solving a problem or working on a project she minds the view from a multitude of perspectives and is known for her creative approach.
Before Tanzi opened her own firm, she practiced law at a boutique law firm and at the office of the Federal Defender of the Western District of North Carolina.
Tanzi obtained her J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law where she earned the Julius Johnson Scholarship and belonged to Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Her legal emphasis was on business, contracts, business taxation, and administrative and environmental law. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the Indiana University School of Journalism, with a minor in music. While working full-time in the restaurant and hospitality industry she remained on the Dean’s List for the duration of her college career; and, for a short time, she used her journalistic talents to write music reviews for the university’s newspaper. Tanzi was also the Vice-President and Social Chair of the Pre-Law Fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta, and dedicated what little spare time she had to community service.
Tanzi grew up in urban Indianapolis, Indiana, and is a graduate of Beech Grove High School.
Tanzi currently volunteers in the Northampton Community Schools, and with the Hilltown Families Organization. She has also served as a Commissioner on the City of Northampton’s Human Rights Commission, and has served as an adjunct law professor teaching business finance courses in an advanced Masters of Law (LLM) degree program in Closely Held Business Law at Western New England University School of Law. Her hobbies include golfing, exercise and nutrition, reading, music and art, fashion and design, product design, and watching professional football. Tanzi is also the owner of Brew Practitioners, a local brewery in Florence, MA.
